Sarah Hawkes is a global health academic and advocate/activist. With a multidisciplinary training in sociology, medicine and a PhD in epidemiology, her work sits at the interface of research and advocacy for social policy and health policy in pursuit of social justice and fairness. Sarah is Head of the Department of Global Population Health at Monash University Malaysia, and former Professor of Global Public Health at University College London, where she led a research theme analysing the use of research evidence in policy processes, particularly in relation to gender and health equity. She has lived and worked for much of the past 25 years in Asia, where she has gathered evidence, collaborated to strengthen capacity, and operated at the interface of policy and research communities. Sarah is the co-Chair of the Lancet Commission on Gender and Global Health, a UK-Government-appointed Commissioner for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.
