‘This is Gender’ features in the Guardian
On 2nd March 2020, the Guardian drew together 13 photographs from our competition into a compelling photo essay: This is Gender photography competition – in pictures.
From Silvia Alessi’s joyous and spontaneous Hijras to Greta Rico’s tender yet empowering Almost There, each photo in the selection provided a different, intimate and deeply personal reflection on gender.
In a time when the very concept of gender has become deeply politicised, the Guardian photo essay provides a welcome snapshot into how gender, and gender norms, are embodied, experienced and subverted around the world.
We’re very grateful to the guardian for sharing the work of some of the #thisisgender photo competition photographers and for helping to drive forward the conversation on responsible and reflective representational practices.
