Global Health 50/50 welcomes Dr Renzo Guinto to its Advisory Council
Dr Renzo Guinto, an emerging leader in planetary health, sustainable development and the decolonization of global health, has become the newest member of the Global Health 50/50 Advisory Council.
Global Health 50/50 are delighted to welcome Renzo Guinto to the Council, and look forward to working with him to push for equity in global health policies and programmes. A self-proclaimed global health ‘deep generalist’, Renzo brings with him nearly a decade of experience in global health policy, research, advocacy, implementation, and innovation at local, national, regional, and international levels.
He is the Chief Planetary Doctor of PH Lab – a “glo-cal think-and-do tank” for advancing the health of both people and the planet and Associate Professor of the Practice of Global Public Health and Inaugural Director of the Global Health Program of the St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine in the Philippines. Renzo obtained his Doctor of Public Health from Harvard University and Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines Manila.
An Obama Foundation Asia-Pacific Leader and Aspen Institute New Voices Fellow, Renzo is member of several groups including: Lancet–Chatham House Commission on Improving Population Health post COVID-19 based at the University of Cambridge; Editorial Advisory Board of The Lancet Planetary Health; Forum on Climate Change and Health of the World Innovation Summit for Health in Qatar; and Lancet One Health Commission based at the University of Oslo.
Renzo’s vast experience and commitment to planetary health and health equity will be invaluable as GH5050 continues to advocate for a fairer and more representative global health landscape and better health outcomes for all.
As Renzo explains, “Colonialist global health is also gender-discriminatory. Therefore, the pursuit of decolonizing global health cannot be totally divorced from the fight against gender inequality. A truly ‘decolonized’ global health is Global Health 50/50.”
The Global Health 50/50 Advisory Council is an informal group whose members serve as advocates and ambassadors for Global Health 50/50 in their personal capacities. Council members provide invaluable thought leadership and advice on good practice on global health and gender, as well as in supporting the development of the Global Health 50/50 initiative.
