Dr Tedros Adhanom Gheybreyesus and Dr Seniat Fisseha: How gender parity improves global health

On International Women’s Day 2019, Dr Tedros Adhanom Gheybreyesus and Dr Seniat Fisseha cite Global Health 50/50 data in their three point call to action for gender equality in global health. Published in Project Syndicate, the piece discusses female health workers, the role of gender as a determinant of health for all people and the “deliberate and directed organizational” actions being taken to ensure gender parity across the World Health Organisation.

The authors call for gender analysis to inform all health strategies and programmes; the closure of the power and pay gap; and, transparency and accountability in health organisations.
