“Deafening silence”: PLOS post by GH5050 co-leads on gender and NCDs

Writing in PLOS, GH5050 co-leads Kent Buse and Sarah Hawkes welcome the long overdue rise of addressing noncommunicable diseases on the global health agenda. They warn however of a ‘deafening silence on the issue of gender in the discussion’ and its risk of major public health consequences. In advance of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on NCDs in September, Buse and Hawkes call on policy-makers to embrace gender-based approaches, and offer three specific recommendations.
